A Community Rich with Arts & Culture
As the inaugural chair of the EG’s volunteer Arts & Culture Advisory Committee, created in 2018, it has been an honour to watch the blossoming of art around our community. It is a testament to the hard work of incredible volunteers and talented local artists in all fields. Sculpture, murals, as well as the Paddle Project and organization of Celebration of the Arts festivals are examples of their effots. However, none have yet to appear in Mount Albert. Further, the pandemic prevented celebrating Mount Albert’s 200th anniversary last year. We need to invest in art and cultural events in Mount Albert. I propose we introduce public sculpture into the Downtown Revitalization project to recognize Mt Albert’s 200th anniversary. Having served on the Ontario Arts Council, I understand the strong link between an improved quality of life that comes when surrounded by art. A strong arts community contributes to building a vibrant society that attracts good jobs and drives tourism. Our future is only limited by our vision, and as the Town’s council liaison for this advisory committee, I look forward to championing further growth and the social and economic benefits it brings.
